5 Reasons Why I Use Honest

This post may contain affiliate links. I only promote products I use and love.

UPDATED 9/21/2020

I wrote this post a couple of years ago, and since then, The Honest Company went back to using chlorine processing in their diapers. We switched and found a couple other of great alternatives.

We use Dyper.com (around .25 cents per diaper) for our toddler’s Pull-ups, and Happy Camper Baby for our 1 year old.

Happy Camper Baby subscription is the same price as Honest, and you get more diapers and better quality wipes (IMHO)

If you are not concerned about chlorine processing and still want a super convenient, super cute, and satisfactory diaper subscription service, keep reading all about the benefits of The Honest Company!

Honest Company

I’m sure you’ve seen ads for the Honest Company somewhere, be it online, on television, or in magazines. Allure, Good Housekeeping, and users alike consistently rate these products at five stars.

They have a pretty powerful story. Jessica Alba wanted to change the way products were made so parents didn’t have to choose between a good product and one that was good for you! She decided to combine the good products with things that were good for you. Cool, huh?

Why These Types of Products Are Needed

But all of those things often don’t convince you about Honest products.

I honestly (see what I did there?) don’t always pay attention to labels and ingredients, though I am starting to. And I need to get better at it. The alarming things you hear; they’re not just stories anymore.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the lady who received money from Johnson & Johnson because of the use of talcum powder that caused her ovarian cancer. The popular company failed to warn consumers about the link between cancer and the powder.

Beauty companies all over the US do not post those things on their labels consistently because they can.

All these things considered, I know as a parent, I want to offer my children the best solution possible. Hence comes in the use of Honest products.

So, why do I use them?

5 Honest Reasons I Use Honest

#1: They are reasonably priced

They offer bundles of diapers and wipes for 15% off, and you can add any 3 add-on products for 25% off with your bundle. I currently am buying 2 bundles/month because I have 2 in diapers.

With a toddler and a baby in diapers, I spend about $200/month on diapers and wipes. It comes in a little more if I add some additional add-on products. Lately, I have been purchasing their organic baby formula for my 10-month old.

Compared to Huggies 162-ct diapers in a size 3 ($47.19), Honest gives you 189-ct of size 3 diapers per bundle at a price of approximately $64.26. Yes, more expensive, but also 20 more quality diapers.

Trust me, for the value you get, the extra cost is totally worth it!

#2: They come right to my doorstep!

With free shipping! Holla! As a busy mom with two running around in diapers, I can’t tell you how priceless this is.

I find it highly inconvenient to load my children up just for short, small trip to the store. We live about 20-30 minutes away from any supermarket or grocery store, and going just for a few things is kind of ridiculous for me.

It works so well to have them delivered, and I usually plan the shipments around one another so I don’t run out of diapers.

It has happened a few times, so it takes a little bit to adjust and figure out exactly when to ship them so you are not overrun for two weeks and then running short the next two weeks.

Plus, who doesn’t look forward to getting packages? Even if it’s only diapers, it’s still exciting!

#3: They offer other products

I have purchased many other products from Honest.

I already mentioned buying their organic baby formula. We have tried the sensitive and the non-sensitive, both of which my kids drank. (I have to say that my children drink about any type of formula, though, so don’t take my word for it with your LOs)

Other items I have purchased from Honest:
  • Sunscreen (loved it!)
  • Bug spray (smells good, in a weird way.)
  • Laundry detergent (love the lavender scented)
  • Toilet bowl cleaner (also a good scent)
  • All-purpose balm (it was okay, I haven’t used it that much)
  • Belly balm (for my stretch marks, it works well)
  • Nipple balm (I loved it when breastfeeding, the little jar will last you forever; you might never have to buy any more ever again)
  • Diaper Rash Cream (I just purchased with the latest bundle, so I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet.)
  • Body Wash (good smell and cleaning components)

They also sent me samples of some cream blush, which I used a couple of times. Truth is, I’m not much for blush, but I did like how it went on smooth and felt light on my skin.

#4: They are cute, cute, cute!

[bctt tweet=”Honest diapers are cute, cute, cute!!” username=”GTastove”]

If you go to their website and check out the cute diapers prints, you just might be sold. They have seasonal prints, sports prints, generic every-day prints, you name it.

I do get kind of sad when the prints I want go out of stock before I get my shipment, but they can’t guarantee those prints, which is understandable. Besides, that is kind of materialistic of me to think like that anyway!

My favorite prints for girls are the roses and the strawberries, and my favorite for the boys are the trains and the breakfast diapers. There are so many more cute prints to choose from, though!

#5: They are made with sustainable and earth-friendly ingredients

Honest boasts making their products without certain chemicals and ingredients that have proven to be irritants or harmful to babies’ skin. Their diapers are made without latex, fragrances or lotions, and chlorine processing.

The wipes are plant-based, infused with antioxidants, and natural soothing and moisturizing ingredients.

They also have a NO list of over 3,000 ingredients they never put in their products, which includes the 1,300 materials and chemicals banned by the European Union (whose beauty standards are way higher than ours are).

I know that I am putting my children in good diapers and I feel good about that.

Bonus Reason: They are good protection

I already mentioned they are made well with no harmful chemicals. But I didn’t tell you that they are also amazing when it comes to leak protection.

My son always has a really wet diaper at night. When we were using Pampers and Huggies, you would bet that he would pee out of them at night. Honest offers an overnight diaper, with more absorbency and leak protection. They are amazing!

It really helped once we reduced his liquid intake during the night as well. But in all cases, even during the day, the Honest diapers hold up better or just as well as other name brands that I have used.

Other Things You Should Know About Honest

  • The tabs on the diapers break off sometimes
  • They don’t mask the smell of dirty ones (if only!)
  • They are not flimsy like other diapers seem to be
  • The sizes are not printed on the outside, but on the inside tab of the diaper
  • They are slightly smaller in size compared to other brand names of diapers (the overnights are not: they are the same or bigger!)
  • If you are the type of family that runs around in only diapers, be aware that the bottom of the diapers will pill and get fuzzy after a while, especially if the surfaces are rough. But it takes a while before that happens.

Is Honest Honestly the Best Choice?

This is totally my hippie Catholic mom coming out, but for my family at this point in our parenting lives, it is right.

There are other brands out there doing similar and great things as well, and I haven’t looked into them. But since I am pretty much satisfied with all of the products I receive from the Honest Company, I don’t have to look into them.

Each family needs to make their own decision about using any type of product. Sometimes we buy the cheaper because it is all we can afford. No shame in that; it’s just life.

I just hope that all companies someday start making their products with good materials for everybody, and not just for their pocketbooks.

Side note: there is this great company, BeautyCounter, that is lobbying for a change in Washington. So hopefully someday there will be regulations on what gets puts in all baby, beauty, and cleaning products. For the good of everybody!

(There, that was my soapbox moment for the day!)

What are your favorite baby products? Cleaning products? Body products?
