Life Hacks have become a thing!
I have seen so many helpful hacks on the internet and especially on Pinterest; I was thinking the other day all the smart things I have learned from just growing up. I think my mom is pretty smart when it comes to being resourceful, and I only hope that I can keep up with that awesomeness!
Here goes:
DO YOUR DISHES IN ORDER
What I mean is, have an order to the madness of dishes.
Most people have dishwashers now, but we never did growing up, and I still don’t.
Plastics, cups, silverware, plates, bowls, saucepans, frying pans, crockpot (or whatever is dirtiest and biggest last).
REUSE YOUR DISHES
Speaking of dishes, my mom recently started reusing plates, bowls, and silverware.
Rinse them off with warm water and bit of soap and they are good as new for the next meal.
That way, each person only uses one set of dishes a day. (I thought it was super weird when I first heard about, but have started doing it myself)
REUSE YOUR PLASTIC CONTAINERS
It might not be chemical-free or super sanitary after several uses, but we store our leftovers in sour cream and whipped topping containers.
Sometimes we get too many in our storage cabinet, then we clean out and recycle!
I also find it super helpful to put my grease into one of them and discard the whole container in the trash.
ICE CREAM BUCKETS ARE BOMB
This is one cleverly labeled “Puke Bucket”, mostly because I was using it to store my homemade granola bars, and my husband used it when he was sick one time without me knowing…it promptly became the puke bucket!
I love using ice cream buckets for all kinds of storage, ice, cookies, granola bars, etc.
USE CLOTHESPINS AS CLIPS
I can’t tell you how many times I didn’t have any baggy clips left.
Either that or they broke!
Clothespins are perfect baggy clips, and you can get a lot for a good price!
Plus, it’s pretty easy to put them back together if they decide to break on you!
COVER YOUR FURNITURE WITH BLANKETS/SHEETS
It helps keep them looking new, and easy cleanup if say, your kid pukes on them.
Or poops, heaven forbid.
And when company comes, just store them until they leave.
Trust me, it has saved my mom’s furniture multiple times.
USE DIAPER TABS TO KEEP THE SMELL IN!
A lot of people just throw the diaper away without closing it.
I’m here to tell you, that stanks!!
Especially if it’s your toddlers dirty, nasty diapers.
So, I use the tabs used for keeping the diaper on, and wrap it around the folded dirty diaper to keep the package neat and contained.
That’s it for now! I’m sure my mom will impart more wise hacks to me in the future that I can add to the list! Or I can add yours!
Let me know, what are some life hacks you have learned from your mom?
