Hello readers! It is the season of Lent when most of us aspire to do more with our faith lives. Pray more, love more, serve more, or all of the above. What better way to do all of those things than to say an entire or partial Rosary or even a Rosary-Novena (saying the Rosary for 9 consecutive days with a special intention)!
What is the importance of praying a rosary?
I believe that saying the Rosary helps in so many parts of life, and the benefits are ten-fold! Praying the Rosary is truly one of the greatest tools we have for living a holy and fulfilled life. Let me explain.
The Rosary brings you peace
I have been stressed or overwhelmed plenty of times, especially when driving in dangerous conditions or awaiting bad news from someone. Or who am I kidding, even just being at home with my small children by myself all day?
Saying the Rosary, even a decade or two, makes that moment seem more peaceful and hopeful, even as you know something could happen in a second.
It is calming
You might laugh at this image, but so many times I have been livid about something ridiculous (mostly towards my husband) and I refuse to calm down. Taking a few deep breaths and appealing to our Mother Mary does the trick: every time! It does outweigh my stubborn pride!
It makes you more aware of God’s will
How many times have you asked yourself, what is God’s will for me? What does God want me to do with my life? Saying the Rosary and especially a Novena with a special intention can definitely clarify and help point you in the right direction. More on this point later!
It brings you more life satisfaction
When my husband and I were first married, he revealed that he had said a Rosary almost every night before going to bed. Determined to keep that going, we have done our best to say it together.
However, there have been plenty of times when we have stopped saying it for several weeks or even months. During those weeks and months, it was a lot easier to complain, take things out on my husband, and be ungrateful for things that I should have been ecstatic about. I have noticed a huge difference in life satisfaction when we consistently say the Rosary.
It keeps you in tune with the Scriptures
I especially love saying a Scriptural Rosary, like the Mother of Mercy Scriptural Rosary Booklet by Vinny Flynn
. There’s even a Scriptural Rosary book for children. You can see the Scriptural passages for each mystery and it really takes you on a journey through the Gospel stories and Jesus’ life. The Rosary keeps you headed toward the pearly gates
From several saints and popes who have experienced its power, to us as everyday servants, this is so true. Blessed Alan de la Roche once said, “If you persevere in reciting the Rosary, this will be a most probable sign of your eternal salvation.” I found that beautiful quote here with many other quotes about this form of prayer.
It helps you find the love of your life
I’m not kidding.
My husband said many Novena’s to seek the will of God concerning marriage before we met. He remembers saying one, in particular, to meet his wife if that’s what God had in store for him.
We met a couple of weeks later. His grandfather even said one before he met his wife; they were married for over 60 years. Truly amazing things happen when a Rosary is prayed.

It aids in discerning for children
Again, another Novena moment to prove they really do work and why you should consider them all the time!
We had been married for 6 months and had been trying to conceive. We realized that maybe God didn’t want us to have a child just yet, so we dedicated our cause to Mary with a Novena in early February, and by the end of February, we were pregnant!!!!
The Rosary is extra powerful when praying for a loved one
Whether it’s for a return to the Church, healing from a sickness or disease, conversion or change of heart, the Rosary is your ally. Think of it as a spiritual weapon, stronger than any tool used in the name of hate, to beat down the devil.
Spiritual warfare is real, and the Rosary is the number one weapon to help combat it. In most of her apparitions, Mary pleads with the world to suffer for souls, to pray more Rosaries for souls, for suffering, and for the salvation of the world. She wants to bring us closer to his Son, who will ultimately save us from anything.
Which leads me to Mary herself…
It gives you another Mother!
Come on, how many of us love those ‘second mothers’ in our life?
Mary is always advocating for us, always wanting to protect us, and will always fight our battles for us. Praying with these beads is one of many ways to become closer to Mary, our Mother, and honor her for her spotless role as the Mother of Christ.
If you want to get closer to Mary without saying the Rosary, I recommend 33 Days to Morning Glory
, an excellent book on how saints revered her and received graces from her.)Related Articles:

Bonus: Did you know that you can also say a mini-Novena? You use the Memorare and appeal to Mary for a special intention. You say the Memorare 8 times in a row for the intention, and then the 9th time you pray it, you pray it with thanksgiving that she heard your prayer. It also helps if you are in a church, with both Mary and Jesus present.
How to Pray the Rosary Every Day
There are some tips and tricks for being consistent with the Rosary. Sometimes my husband and I are really good at it. Other times (like now, with 3 small kids) we struggle to say it every day.
We often commit to saying if once a day during Advent and Lent, because we recognize the importance of preparing our hearts for Jesus. (not that we shouldn’t do that every day)
Here are some suggestions to be consistent:
- Install an app on your phone to say it during your commute or while cooking supper
- Likewise, invest in a CD with the Rosary on it for your car or house
- Say a decade at a time. That will take no time at all. You can break it up over the day and still pray a genuine full Rosary.
- Commit to an accountability partner who will help remind you to say a Rosary
- Or, have a family prayer time and say a Rosary together
- Forego your favorite TV show and say a Rosary instead
- Wake up a few minutes early and start your day with Mary and a Rosary
Scriptural Rosary
I really enjoy Scriptural Rosaries. They give you pieces of Scripture that coincide with the mysteries. This makes your Rosary praying experience much more full and contemplative.
– You can get a book with the instructions to have at your side at all times! Many people have made excellent videos online to say it with. I really like Kate & Mike Catholic Crusade and their version of a Scriptural Rosary on YouTube.
Saying a Rosary
Using the Rosary as a prayer weapon solves many life dilemmas, as well as brings peace of mind to our crazy lives. Who knew that only 15-20 minutes of prayer could bring so many benefits?
It’s time to get out there (or stay inside :P) with your Rosary and change the world! If you don’t own a Rosary, there are many places to get them. I have some examples here from the Catholic Company:
Deluxe Black Glass Rosary
Guardian Angel Rosary
Keep in mind, your local parish might give them out for free. You might also be able to get the priest to bless it for you!
Whenever you might pray a Rosary, remember how powerful it is in our spiritual lives. It will bring more than peace and comfort, it will bring change to our world and to our sinful selves.
Please comment on how the Rosary impacts your life.
I got a Departmental Head promotion post through praying rosary everyday.
That’s amazing! It’s really about your heart being changed through prayer, and having the circumstances change as well is an extra blessing! Only through our Lord with the help of our Lady!
should we say more
than 1Rosary per day ?
Totally up to you! If you have the time and means to do so, then sure! If you are in a season where you can only say a part of a rosary, then yes!
It gives peace of mind beyond one’s imagination.
Amen, Mike! Especially now we should be praying the Rosary like never before!
