10 Ways to Feel Pretty as a Stay-At-Home-Mom

Be honest, do you feel pretty on a daily basis while staying home with your LO’s?

(Ha! Side note: if I’m honest; mommy acronyms confuse me. It took me a long time to figure out what LO (little one) or FTM (first-time mom) meant. SAHM (stay-at-home mom) was a real tricky one that took me forever to get. Why do we use these? Are we that lazy that we cannot spell things out anymore? *notice how I did not use a contraction, twice!*)

I will leave that up for debate, but one thing we moms do not do (or just forget to do) is take care of ourselves. Taking care of our appearance translates to our attitudes and outlook on life. That can affect our kids and husband.

Our jobs are 24/7; why not look great for our jobs anytime or all the time?! Here are 10 lazy ways to feel prettier even as we are at home with our kids all day long!

cleaner Ways to Feel pretty

So, heads up. I am part of a movement for cleaner beauty. It’s called Beautycounter. I am going to mention a few of my favorite products in this post as a part of a way to help you find safer products that you might want to try.

You can read more about my mission here, and why I decided to join this movement.

10 Ways to Help Yourself Feel Pretty

Brush Your Teeth

You think I’m kidding.

I have forgotten to brush my teeth in the morning basically almost every day since I have learned how, and it doesn’t add to the feeling of clean and pretty! As soon as I do brush my teeth, I feel like 45% better because my pearly whites FEEL amazing. And it literally takes 2 minutes!

My favorite toothpaste options are: Hello! Charcoal Toothpaste and Tom’s of Maine Sensitivity Toothpaste.

Floss Those Pretty Teeth

I don’t realize how little pieces of food can live for days in your teeth. Gross! Flossing is just a great habit to get into before brushing your teeth; this is one that I really need to work on! I always feel prettier after I floss.

I really like using Plackers flossing picks. Super easy, more sanitary, and just easy to use. Did I say that already?

Brush Your Hair

This was a huge one for me. I get to the point where toddlers steal and hide my hairbrush, and I use the backup one that is not nearly as effective at getting to the scalp. I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week anyway, and not brushing it is an itchy disaster.

Plus, a good brush can help restore circulation to the scalp and keep your hair healthy and growing.

Mascara!

Most definitely my go-to when it comes to quick makeup. I am obsessed with how mascara makes your eyelashes look longer, thicker, and darker. I have spent hours learning how to apply mascara better and wearing 2 or 3 layers of mascara always make me feel glamorous and pretty!

My go-to’s are Mary Kay Ultimate Lash and Lash Love. I also love Tyra’s mascara, as well as Beautycounter’s cleaner options.

Foundation and Concealer

This is easy, and a must. Just a quick swipe here or there on your tired (and smiling) face will help as you glance in the mirror after changing your 200th diaper for the day. It doesn’t take much to notice the improvement!

Tip: the absolute best setting powder has hands down been from Beautycounter. Their mattifying powder can keep you sheen-free for hours.

Paint Your Fingernails/Toenails

I will admit, this usually takes me longer than 10 minutes, especially if you count adequate drying time before jamming your toesies into a sock/shoe or drying your hands on a towel (when again after you washed from changing a diaper).

But if you have to settle for a quick one-layer paint job with a dark color, you are all set. I find it a lot quicker to paint my toenails; there is something about switching hands for your fingernails that makes it so much more challenging!

I have heard that Cote is a good non-toxic nail polish, but I’m also going to try out Sophi, which is more budget-friendly.

Put On Your Favorite Outfit!

I love doing this! I buy a new outfit for church or for going out, and can only get dressed up once or twice a week! Says who?? Girl, feel free to prance around the house in whatever makes you feel and look good.

Double plus: when your hubby comes home, he will definitely appreciate the time you took to look good for him. We will let him think that we did it for him!

Some of my favorite budget-friendly online stores include Thred Up and Zulily.

Wear Your Favorite pretty Shoes Around the House

This might go without saying to wear your shoes with the outfit, but sometimes all I need is the shoes. Shoes are my demise! I love getting new shoes, and unfortunately, I wear a size 11, meaning that they don’t usually make the cute shoes in my size.

So, when I do find a cute pair, you better believe they are coming home with me! What’s more fun than prancing around your kitchen cooking in your heels!? (I would probably break an ankle!)

Put On Deodorant

You’re saying, really? Trust me, it’s 3 pm, and I catch a whiff of myself, realizing I haven’t put deodorant on for the day. Shameful, I know. Who’s going to smell me anyway, besides my kids?? Even if I don’t do a thing all day, I can mentally rest knowing that I smell….decent. (We won’t count baby spit-up or toddler poop.)

Put On A Smile and Kindness – that is real pretty

This is perhaps the most important item of all. We can utilize material things to aid in the process of feeling pretty, but sometimes those can become an illusion. I catch myself frowning more than I should, and remind myself to just look at my beautiful children and smile. Usually, they give me a goofy grin back (totally worth it). In addition, stay true to the ways of the Lord, be kind to one another, love each other, and give of yourself in small ways, share joy with others. That will truly make you feel pretty.

Pretty Easy, Huh?

This list is meant to be stress-free things to help yourself feel human and beautiful again! No matter the day or time, all women should feel loved and beautiful.

Knowing a few tips and tricks to feel pretty never hurts, does it? I would love to hear your 5-10 minute strategies for feeling beautiful! Comment below, and have a beautiful day.
